Calpulli Mexican Dance Company began to develop its artistic voice in 2003 based on a love for its community and our traditions. In the process, we re-discovered the power of story-telling and affirmed it with the universal language of dance and music. Now, the Company tours a book of stories that share an enlightened perception of our voyage as immigrants and Mexican-Americans. With a contemporary voice, CALPULLI MEXICAN DANCE COMPANY tells our stories mainly through folkloric dance and musical traditions that seek to highlight and celebrate the shared humanity of our experiences.
As a small company based in New York City, partnerships with presenters of all types, sizes, and mission are essential for us to share our voice, one that is much needed and underrepresented. The Company offers programs that are based on our active repertoire and our stories and which are often complimented with arts-in-education offerings and efforts to engage local and targeted communities. The Company is available for performances in a wide range of settings and can create new works based on site-specific venues and choreography commissions.

"This is not your typical folkloric dance company. Honestly Calpulli should be on Broadway. The storytelling, dancing and production are that good....Dance is a universal language, and Calpulli is expert at touching our common humanity."
-New York Latin Culture
"What a wonderful show!...If you haven't seen the amazing work of this company, you are missing out!"
-BroadwayWorld.com on "Dia de los Muertos"
"This terrific company of warm, generous dancers...gave a quick, vibrant tour of Mexican traditions — from Yucatán, Oaxaca, Jalisco — with eye-popping costumes for every stop. The finale with flying machetes was something to see."
-Brian Seibert, New York Times
"Too generous and innocent to be pretentious, with its subversion of gender norms wrapped up in its sincerity, “Dia de los Muertos” might expand your idea of what is traditional."
-Brian Seibert, New York Times
