¡Fiesta Mexicana! is a vibrant celebration by Calpulli Mexican Dance Company featuring the most popular and traditional dances of Mexico. This exhilarating performance takes audiences all over Mexico– from the Gulf Coast of Veracruz with its lively footwork, to the rocky mountains of Chihuahua where polka is paramount, the lush forests of Michoacán and her beloved Viejitos, and spirited Jalisco, home of the famed Mariachi. Our fiesta, featuring dazzling garments and dance, explores connections and rhythms rooted in native American, African, European and Caribbean cultures. Audiences of all ages will be immersed in the richness of Mexican culture and leave with freshly sparked pride, joy and curiosity.

Native Mexico is a unique interactive performance by Calpulli Mexican Dance Company honoring those that came before us. Join us as we pay tribute to the prehispanic civilizations who continue to inspire us today: the Mexika (MEH-shee-ka), Purepecha (poo-REH-peh-cha), Zapotec (zap-uh-tek), and Totonaca (toh-toh-NAH-kah) and those that came before them, the Maya (mai-uh), Olmec (OL-mek), and Tolteca (tohl-TEH-kah) peoples. Featuring vibrant dance, eye-catching garments and melodious instruments originated by prehispanic civilizations, audiences will experience beautiful rituals to honor the earth, the spirit and the community. Often mistaken for Mexico’s Independence Day, Calpulli commemorates the Battle of Puebla, when on May 5th (cinco de mayo) in 1862, against all odds, a small Mexican force triumphed over the world’s most powerful army. Join us as we honor the spirit of Puebla through lively movement, music and radiant garments. Audiences of all ages will be immersed in the traditions of Puebla, both past and present, and pay homage to the bravery of its people which forever changed the course of history in the Americas.
