Calpulli Teaching Artists lead interactive workshops exploring Mexican dances through movement, props, and cultural context. Dances are adapted to participants’ abilities and can include classics like La Bamba and El Jarabe Tapatío. Workshops accommodate up to 30 participants and can include professional development for educators.

Virtual offerings include assemblies, workshops, and residencies, all led by Calpulli Teaching Artists who provide interactive instruction, historical context, and choreography. Sessions are supported by Calpulli staff to ensure a seamless online experience, and virtual residencies can run weekly for several weeks with the option of a culminating event.

For pre-professional artists, we offer master classes that provide training and new opportunities to grow in dance and music. Past hosts have included universities, ballet folklorico groups, and educational institutions, including the National Dance Institute and the National Young Arts Foundation.

Calpulli Artists lead workshops where participants gain a cultural understanding and hands-on experience making crafts inspired by traditional Mexican culture. Director of Arts in Education and professional costume-maker Alberto Lopez leads interactive workshops in costume making, specifically, the craft of producing folkloric dresses that includes design and hands-on creation.
